TACOMA – Thanks to a generous Gary E. Milgard Family Foundation grant, seniors in care facilities will receive improved services from Pierce County Library System.
The Pierce County Library Foundation is pleased to announce a $75,321 grant award from the Gary E. Milgard Family Foundation. This funding will provide a new senior outreach services van, replacing the aging van currently in use. The funds will be used to purchase the vehicle and customize it—to better serve residents—with a lift gate, interior shelving, carts, crates, totes, bins and a colorful wrap.
Pierce County Library has been providing outreach services to people in adult care facilities for 40 years. Skilled library staff members bring best-selling books, large print books, audiobooks, movies, music and e-readers, along with personalized reading recommendations, to seniors living in care facilities. Many of these residents are confined to their rooms or do not have the ability to travel.
The Pierce County Library Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Library. The mission of the Foundation is to raise, manage and allocate funds to support and enhance programs and services for Pierce County Library which are not funded by taxes or other traditional revenue sources.
The Gary E. Milgard Family Foundation is a private charitable organization founded in Tacoma in 2000 by Gary and Carol Milgard and their children. The Milgards felt that the Foundation was a way to give back to the community that helped them become so successful. Their children honor their parents’ memory by continuing their charitable work.
