LAKEWOOD, WA – The Parkland Transit Center is reopening to routes 45, 55, 204 and 410 with the beginning of service on Monday, September 30, 2013. Route 1 and SHUTTLE service continue to be impacted and are expected to return to the Transit Center by late October.
Route 1 will remain on Pacific Avenue while crews make the final installation to the shelter roofs near each bus zone inside the Transit Center. Customers will continue to access Route 1 at bus stops located on Pacific Avenue at 121st Street South, on the NE corner for travel toward TCC, and on the SW corner for travel toward SR-7 and 8th Avenue (Walmart).
Route 45, 55, 204 and 410 will resume regular routes on September 30, however customers should pay close attention to signage in the transit center as the zones will shift as needed to complete the shelter roof installations.
A temporary zone for SHUTTLE customers is located near the bus boarding zone on 121st Street South. Customers should look for signage in that area. An accessible pathway will be maintained on the transit island as the roofing work continues.
Located off of 121st Street and Pacific Avenue in Parkland, the Parkland Transit Center is an important link between Pierce Transit’s Route 1 trunk line service and four other routes that currently provide service. About 71% of the facilities improvements to the Parkland Transit Center and Park and Ride were funded by Federal Transit Administration grants for transit center improvements. The construction project has added additional shelters for waiting fixed-route and SHUTTLE customers, improved pedestrian/ADA access and improved lighting and security.
