Franciscan seeks Members for Patient Family Advisory Councils

September 23, 2013 By The Suburban Times

Franciscan Health System is recruiting past patients and family members to serve on its Patient Family Advisory Councils. Franciscan invites past patients and their family members to attend one of the following information meetings most convenient to them, regardless of where they received care within the Franciscan family:

  • September 24, 6 – 7 p.m. – St. Elizabeth Hospital, Enumclaw – Rainier Room
  • September 25, 2 – 3 p.m. – St. Anthony Hospital, Gig Harbor – Conference Room A
  • September 26, 6 – 7 p.m. – St. Joseph Medical Center, Tacoma – Lagerquist Conference Room A

Council members work alongside Franciscan hospital and Franciscan Medical Group clinic staff members at all levels to help identify challenges and find solutions that directly improve the patient experience. Members share their own experiences and provide feedback on a variety of system-wide and regional process improvements.

“The Councils provide an ongoing and fresh perspective of what it’s like to be a patient in our care,” explains Laurie Brown, RN, chief nursing officer. “Looking at the care we provide – through our patients’ eyes – helps us see our processes and behaviors in a new light, and fosters creative solutions that may not have occurred to us without their help.”

The volunteer Councils meet once a month, November through June. Franciscan seeks members of the community who have used Franciscan services within the past three years as an inpatient, outpatient or family member. Nominees must be willing to collaborate in a team setting and offer constructive advice, attend one evening dinner meeting a month through June, and be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement. Adults of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

To register for an information event call 253-428-8391. If unable to attend an information event, community members are encouraged to learn more and submit an interest form at www.FHShealth.org/Councils.
