University Place Council Candidate Forum to be held Sept. 25

The Tacoma-Pierce County Chapter of the League of Women Voters will moderate a University Place Council Candidate Forum on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Curtis High School Auditorium, 8425 40th Street W. Residents are encouraged to attend and submit their questions during the forum, which will include candidates for Positions 3 and 4, the two races with opponents. Candidates also will present opening and closing statements as well as answer a few questions specific to University Place.

University Place residents will have an opportunity to vote for four City Council positions this year: Javier H. Figueroa is unopposed for Position 1; Steve Worthington and incumbent Eric Choiniere are vying for Position 3; incumbent Ken Grassi and Carl J. Mollnow are running for Position 4; and Denise McCluskey is uncontested for Position 5.

Shortly after the event, the forum will be shown on University Place Television (UPTV) daily at 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. UPTV is available for viewing within the University Place city limits on Click! Channel 12 and Comcast Channel 21. The program also will be accessible online at www.CityofUP.com.

The date for the General Election is Nov. 5, 2013. The online or mail deadline for voter registration, address changes and other updates isOct. 7. The in person deadline (for new Washington voters only) is Oct. 28, 2013 at the Pierce County Elections Division, 2501 S. 35th St. For more information about the upcoming election, visit www.piercecountywa.org/elections or call 253.798.VOTE (8683) or 800.446.4979.
