TACOMA, Wash. – Bates Technical College has earned a “Military Friendly School” designation in the 2014 Victory Media Military Friendly Schools List. The annual list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s service members, veterans and spouses as students, and to ensure their success on campus.
Bates has an active student veteran club, whose members will help open a Student Veteran Center at the Downtown Campus this year. In addition to offering valuable resources and assistance, the center will serve as a gathering space for veterans, military members, spouses and their dependents. Last year, the college unveiled the Veterans Advanced Career Placement program to help student veterans earn credit toward military experience.
College President Dr. Ron Langrell said these steps help reinforce our commitment and dedication to the hundreds of veteran students who choose Bates as their educational partner after serving in the military. “As a community-based technical college with a major military base as partners, we make it a priority to help our veterans become job-ready and build on the skills and abilities acquired during their military service.”
Sean Collins, Vice President at Victory Media and a nine-year Navy veteran, said, “Inclusion on the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools® shows Bates Technical College’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students,” he said. “The need for education is growing and our mission is to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their search for schools.” Complete survey methodology is available at militaryfriendlyschools.com/
The 1,868 institutions on the list provide exceptional resources and assistance for military students and their families. G.I Jobs Magazine used a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 Veterans Affairs-approved schools nationwide to evaluate and measure the institutions vying for a spot on the list.
A full story and detailed list of 2014 Military Friendly Schools® will be highlighted in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools®, distributed in print and digital format to hundreds of thousands of active and former military personnel in early October.
