Homeowners invited to free workshops on managing stormwater systems

September 12, 2013 By The Suburban Times

Pierce County News Release

Pierce County homeowners and homeowner associations are invited to attend a free workshop this fall to learn how to prepare their stormwater systems for the rainy season. Homeowners will also learn how to manage their neighborhood associations or start one.

“These free workshops will help homeowners learn how to protect the stormwater systems they own,” said Dan Wrye, Pierce County Public Works and Utilities water quality manager. “These actions will help reduce flooding and protect water quality.”

Homeowners will learn simple steps to maintain storm drains, gutters, and stormwater ponds located within their neighborhood. Additionally, homeowner associations will learn how planning in advance for routine maintenance can reduce the likelihood of needing more extensive repairs.

The workshops run from 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. They will be offered on the following dates:

· Wednesday, Sept. 25: Parkland/Spanaway Library, 13718 Pacific Ave. S. in Tacoma

· Thursday, Oct. 10: Gig Harbor Civic Center, 3510 Grandview St. in Gig Harbor

· Thursday, Oct. 24: Pierce County Library Processing and Administrative Center, 3005 112th St. E. in Tacoma

These workshops are taught by Pierce County water quality specialists. Homeowners should register by Sept. 13 by calling (253) 798-2460, emailing PCSWMWorkshop@co.pierce.wa.us, or visiting www.co.pierce.wa.us/hoaworkshops.
