Tacoma Concert Band to kick off 2013-14 season

September 3, 2013 By The Suburban Times

The award-winning Tacoma Concert Band proudly presents “Dance Rhythms,” the opening concert of its 2013-2014 season.

Featuring clarinet soloist Cindy Renander and guest conductor John Falskow, this entertaining program will explore how historical and cultural dance have influenced concert music. Dance rhythms and music influenced by the dance will run the gamut from Dimitri Shostakovich’s Folk Dances to Adam Gorb’s Yiddish Dances (with a klezmer influence) to Scott Joplin’s seldom-heard Graceful Ghost Rag, and even music from the hit musical Chicago! Ms. Renander, one of the region’s most accomplished clarinetists, will perform Victor Babin’s beloved Hillandale Waltzes.

“Dance Rhythms” will be performed on Saturday evening, October 12th, 7:30 p.m., at Tacoma’s historic Pantages Theater. Tickets start at just $16, with substantial discounts for seniors, students, and military personnel.

For tickets contact the Broadway Center box office at 253-591-5894 or 1-800-291-7593, or online at www.broadwaycenter.org. For further information and the Tacoma Concert Band’s exciting new season schedule, please visit www.tacomaconcertband.org.

Don’t miss this musical treat, a salute to terpsichore that will keep your toes tapping!
