Source Yoga has been serving our community in the neighborhoods of North Tacoma since 2005 and our newest location, University Place since May 2011. At Source Yoga, you will be warmly welcomed by teachers, staff, and community and feel at home in our serene and light-filled environment. We offer exceptional classes, workshops, special events, and retreats with well-trained instructors for varying levels of students.

Kirtan – Jeannine Maxwell

4th Friday of each month.

Join Jeannine Maxwell and Friends for Kirtan!  Using simple, repetitive songs and chants, Kirtan can carry us effortlessly to a place of quiet. There will be Sanskrit songs from ancient India as well as English contemporaries. Come join in the community fun and profound gathered stillness! No singing experience necessary. Cost: $5 suggested donation to the Source Yoga Scholarship Fund.

Meditation helps protect the brain against aging and improves our capacity for learning new things. And it’s as easy as sitting down and taking a breath.” Real Happiness by Sharon Salzberg

 

In this 4-week series, we will explore mindfulness meditation, using Real Happiness as a  resource and inspiration (book includes a CD of guided meditations for home use).

Mindfulness and the body

Mindfulness and emotions

Cultivating compassion

How to keep the practice going

Partner Thai Yoga Massage – Paula Schwary

Thai Yoga Massage is an interactive form of meditative bodywork combining assisted yoga stretching, acupressure, gentle rocking, and rhythmic compression along energy lines.  There are many benefits of Thai Yoga    Massage.  Posture, breathing, flexibility, circulation and relaxation may be   improved by freeing the flow of vital energy in the body.  A deep sense of peace can be felt during and    after a session.  Bring your partner and join yoga teacher and Thai Yoga Massage practitioner Paula for a fun and relaxing afternoon.  In this hands on workshop you will be introduced to practical   techniques for relaxation and gentle stretching.

Please wear comfortable clothing and bring 2 thick blankets and a pillow.

The Transitions of the Sun Salutation – Theresa Elliott

Develop skill to see, teach and do the sun salutation, focusing on the transitions as an asana in itself. Stepping through, coming into and out of Up and Down Dog, and jumping into Uttanasana will all be examined for grace, timing and technique. Where necessary, the stationary postures will be addressed. Geared for teachers of any level or sincere    students who wish greater depth in their understanding of how to move in yoga.

Children discover yoga through movement exploration, story, play and fun. Yoga helps kids develop balance, flexibility, strength, focus and relaxation.
