Caring for Kids did it. We were able to help 3,626 kids in need with a backpack, school supplies and hygiene products. At our main event at Lochburn Middle School there were also haircuts by Clover Park Technical College students and volunteers, immunizations by Franciscan Health, sports physicals headed up by Dr. Dale Hirz, face painting by Nicole and team, bike helmets by West Pierce Fire and dental checks by Community Health Care. There was a free lunch. The gym was packed with washed and sorted clothing. It took a 20 foot U-Haul stacked to the ceiling and 5 pickups to move all the clothing. There was also a limited number of new socks and underwear.
The second event was held at Springbrook Park in collaboration with Lakewood First Lions Club. The Lions served a hot dog dinner, Community Health provided dental checks and Caring for Kids gave out school supplies for 470 kids. This is a special area for both the Lions and Caring for Kids.
The third event of the week was held in collaboration with Tillicum Community Center. Caring for Kids loves the hardworking staff and volunteers at Tillicum Community Center. We provided 392 more kids with school supplies.
Last but not least a big thank you to the Family of volunteers that makes Caring for Kids possible. With the positive and loving attitudes of our CFK volunteers, our hard work is fun and a positive place to be. We also want to thank the Oasis Church of Lakewood for their continued support of the fair.
