Lakewood Library marked its 50th anniversary on Aug. 17 with a party that featured the “Fab Four”—aka “British Import”—a tribute band, entertaining guests with a medley of popular Beatles tunes from the 60s. The band’s performance was just one of several events held at the library to commemorate the community’s important resource of information. Lakewood Library officially joined the Pierce County Library system in 1991.
Note: Lakewood’s Friends is one of the largest Friends’ groups serving Pierce County’s Library system, said LFOL president Bob Estrada. Between 1963 and 1990, Lakewood’s Library was owned by its Friends’ group. Ownership of the library building was formally transferred in 1991 to the PC Library System. Stop by Lakewood Historical Society, located in the Lakewood Colonial Center, for more information about the Library and other history about Lakewood. (LHS is open from Noon-4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturday.)
