Lakewood City Manager report to council, August 16

The City Council’s next regular session is scheduled for Monday, August 19, 2013 beginning at7:00 P.M. in the City Hall Council Chambers located at 6000 Main Street SW. City Council agenda items will be: 1) Recognition of Commencement Bay Rowing Club’s US Rowing Youth National Championship; 2) Recognition of Lakewood YMCA’s National Gymnastics Championship; 3) Appointing Youth Council members for 2013-2014; 4) Appointing an individual to serve on the Citizens’ Transportation Advisory Committee through November 15, 2014.

The City Council’s next study session is scheduled for Monday, August 26, 2013 beginning at7:00 P.M. in the City Hall Council Chambers located at 6000 Main Street SW. City Council agenda items will be: 1) Proclamation declaring September 13, 2013 as Lakewood Playhouse Day; 2) Authorizing the execution of an agreement with Lakeview Light and Power relative to the installation of fiber optic cabling.

A special meeting will be held on Monday, August 26, 2013 following the study session authorizing the City Manager to execute a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Lakewood Police Management Guild.

Prosecution Update

During the week of August 5-9, 2013, for the Cities of Lakewood and University Place, 40 cases were reviewed by the Prosecutor. Of these, 12 charges were filed in Court. This is in addition to the in-custody cases already filed for both cities.

Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Update

Junk in the Trunk Community Garage Sale

Economic Development Update

Point Defiance Rail Bypass Workshops

The City of Lakewood is conducting public workshops to review the current status of the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Point Defiance Rail Bypass Project (PDRB). This Project proposes to reroute Amtrak passenger trains to an existing inland rail line route along the west side of I-5 through south Tacoma, Lakewood, and DuPont. When completed, it would bring a total of seven daily round trip passenger trains through Tacoma, Lakewood, and DuPont intersections, with an average crossing time of 45 seconds per intersection and a maximum speed of 79 mph. The first Workshop is for those properties adjacent to the railroad tracks from the City’s northerly City limits to 108th Street SW. The Workshop shall be conducted on August 21, 2013, beginning at 6:30 PM, at Lakewood City Hall City Council Chambers, 6000 Main Street SW. Additional workshops and meetings will be held around this topic in the coming weeks.
