The First Annual John Zimmermann Scholarship Golf Tournament Presented by Lakewood Ford drew a full field of 9 teams to the Highlands Golf Course.   Participating in a scrambles best ball format, each  team was limited to just 3 clubs a team.  The winning team, comprised of Donn Allard, Darryl Owens,  Scott Walyor, and Roger Laybourn, played the 9 hole event in 4 under par.   Following the golf tournament and putty contest, golfers enjoyed a meal of “Zimmer Dogs” prepared by John Zimmermann.   John has over 40 years in Kiwanis and has been the concession chairperson for many years.   The “Zimmer Dog” has been a long standing tradition at athletic events conducted at Lakewood’s Harry Lang Stadium.   The Kiwanis Scholarship Program provides financial assistance for deserving seniors at Clover Park and Lakes.

The Kiwanis Club of Clover Park would like to thank the following individuals and companies for supporting the golf tournament:  Lakewood Ford, the RAM Restaurant of Lakewood, America’s Credit Union, Edward Jones, Dr. Tim Joy and the Evergreen Spinal Health Center, Cedcore, Columbia Bank, Lakewood Players, Mr. Rick’s Catering, Pro Golf, and Snug Harbor Resorts.   As part of last day activities at the Springbrook Park Youth Program on Friday, August 23, Kiwanians will provide “Zimmer Dogs” to the boys and girls who participated and their parents.   An on going summer project has been watering and harvesting vegetables at the Lakewood Community Garden food bank plots.  The Lakewood FISH Food bank has received over 300 pounds of fresh produce this summer.  Plots containing potatoes and tomatoes will soon be ready to harvest.
