UNIVERSITY PLACE – “Impressions,” a free and open to the public Summer Dance Concert  will be presented at the University Place Library Atrium on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at 5:00 p.m. DTNW Regional Company members and students of all ages from DANCE THEATRE NORTHWEST will perform classical and contemporary ballet, jazz, and musical theatre style dance. Featured performers include Katie Neumann and Chhay Mam.

Melanie Kirk-Stauffer, Artistic Director, has created a new work that will premiere entitled “Impressions.” The ballet is based on Kirk-Stauffer’s visit to the new University Place Museum of History. References are loosely made to the early settlers, particularly the Leland sisters, Bertha, Inger, and Pauline who came to the University Place area from Norway in 1904. All three sisters married men in University Place who were involved in area logging operations necessary to clear the land for area farms and businesses. The school district and community attempts to build a University, the tomato farmers, apple orchards, horse ranches and early fire fighters are also depicted. Kirk-Stauffer will narrate.

The Library Atrium is located at 3609 Market St. University Place, WA 98466 (Between 37th St W and Bridgeport Way W).

The company will also present a mini performance at Bridgeport Place on Friday, August 9th at 2:30 p.m. Bridgeport Place is located at 5250 Bridgeport Way W.

Admission and parking are FREE and both facilities are handicapped accessible.  For more information contact at (253) 778-6534. Or, visit DTNW’s Website at www.DTNW.org.  where you will also find listings for more performance times as well as information about the organization.
