DSHS announces promotion of Bill Moss

July 25, 2013 By The Suburban Times

Department of Social and Health Services Secretary Kevin W. Quigley has made permanent his appointment of Bill Moss as Assistant Secretary of the Aging and Long-term Support Administration. In February, Quigley reorganized the Department’s leadership team to better align management responsibilities and improve service delivery. One of his key appointments was to name Bill Moss as the acting assistant secretary of the newly created Aging and Long-Term Support Administration.

“I could not be happier that Bill will be leading this key administration for the long haul,” Quigley said. “With Bill, it is always about how he can give credit, not take credit. He is always about team building, not going it alone, and he is unflaggingly considerate. Bill has that unique ability to truly listen and focus on the specific needs of one individual and also understand and respond to the service needs of large groups of people across many systems.”

Moss has worked for DSHS for 20 years. Prior to becoming the Home and Community Services Division Director in 2006, he served as the Office Chief of the Home and Community Programs Unit, and as Deputy Administrator at the Region 6 Home and Community Services office.

He graduated from Eastern Washington University in 1991. In 2001, Moss was nominated for the Governor’s Distinguished Management Leadership Award and received the 2000 Assistant Secretary’s Quality Leadership Award.

In addition to the positive impact Moss has with his co-workers, others who work with him also speak highly of his skills. Walt Bowen, Washington Senior Lobby, says “he has good credibility with the Legislature. You don’t find guys like this often. We know he has a tough job—if there’s anything we can do to support him, we’re there.”
