Grace Gymnastics brings home National Champions

July 15, 2013 By The Suburban Times

By Renee Quinn

The Lakewood Family YMCA’s Grace Gymnastics team traveled to Savannah, Georgia at the end of June for Fountain of Possibilities, the 2013 YMCA National Gymnastics Championship. Their participation proved to be a success among the 105 teams represented.

The two-day competition culminated with a finals competition where Hannah Hamlin, age 15 won National All-Around Champion in the Junior age group of the championship division and Jessie Hogue, age 18 won National All-Around Champion in the Senior age group of the level 8 division.

The Lakewood Family YMCA team was named National Champions in the level 8 division and placed second in levels 9 and 10. Collectively, the team of 30 gymnasts brought home more than 130 medals! Each gymnast qualified prior to the championship with a specified all-around score at a USA Gymnastics (USAG) sanctioned competition.

“To see the hard work and determination from each gymnast makes me and each parent extremely proud,” says Gymnastics Director Kevin Milliren.
