Maj. Angel José “Monty” Montemayor, USAF (Ret.), passed away July 3, 2013, at his home in Federal Way. He was 81.

Angel_MontemayorBorn March 12, 1932, in Laredo, Tex., he joined the Air Force following high school. He served as a navigator in the Korean and Vietnam wars, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement in flight. He met his first wife, Ruth Skow, while stationed near Portland, Ore., marrying in 1961. Following a 21-year military career, he settled in Federal Way, Wash., in 1973, raising a family and working as a systems analyst for Boeing.

Following Ruth’s passing in 1991, and his retirement from Boeing in 1995, Monty volunteered extensively in the community, notably with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Federal Way Caregiving Network. He married Leonilde Muñoz in 2004, with whom he traveled the world and who lovingly cared for him in his final years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Ruth, and five siblings. He is survived by his wife, Leonilde, son Mark (Emilie) of Greeley, Colo., son Thomas (Stacy) of Tacoma, daughter Marie Montemayor of Seattle, and seven grandchildren; his brother Louis Montemayor, and sister Ana De La Cruz, both of Laredo, Tex.

Funeral Mass will be at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Federal Way (3939 SW 331st St.), where he was a parishioner for nearly 40 years, on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at 11:00 a.m.; viewing at 10:00 a.m. Private interment with military honors to follow at New Tacoma Cemetery in University Place (9212 Chambers Creek Rd. W).

Betty L. Allen, 83, passed away July 5, 2013 in Tacoma, WA. She was born in Tacoma, WA on January 27, 1930 to Lars and Hilda Larsen.

BettyAllenShe married Donald G. Allen on January 2, 1953 and had two children, Debbie and Larry. She worked for the Tacoma News Tribune for 13 years, retiring in 1984. She and Don were members of the Puyallup Eagles Club.

Betty was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family and it showed with the sparkle in her eye whenever everyone gathered at her house.

Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Langlow; and her husband, Donald G. Allen. She is survived by her son, Larry and daughter-in-law, Doreen; their children, Kirsten and Bryan; Debbie’s children: Michael Langlow, Kim Langlow, Shanin Langlow, and Ronald Langlow; and their children. She is also survived by stepdaughters, Glenna Allen and Donna Engle, and their children.

Viewing will be held at New Tacoma Funeral Home on Thursday, June 11 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 12 at 1:00 pm in Chambers Creek Chapel. Please visit www.newtacoma.com.
