Firwood and Oak Grove students have a blast celebrating Independence Day

Students from Oak Grove Elementary School and Firwood Secondary School celebrated Independence Day by shooting off rockets during the schools’ “Blast Off” event July 3. The students designed and assembled their rockets and sent them skyward with the help of staff members. The students are part of Oak Grove/Firwood’s summer program.

Students from Firwood Secondary School and Oak Grove Elementary School celebrated Independence Day by shooting off rockets during the schools’ “Blast Off” event July 3.

“This event provides a great opportunity for the students to celebrate the Fourth of July,” said Robin McIlvaine with the Child Study and Treatment Center. “It’s a great way for them to socialize with other students and take pride in successfully making a rocket.”

Teachers, counselors, doctors, nurses and others attended the event. The schools hold a number of events throughout the year. Oak Grove and Firwood are part of the Clover Park School District’s Transitional Day Program.
