Meet local author and homeless advocate at U.P. library

June 12, 2013 By Pierce County Library System

By Mary Getchell, Communications Director, Pierce County Library System

Author Richard LeMieux will speak and sign books during a free event at University Place Pierce County Library, 3609 Market Place W., Suite 100, on Thursday, June 13, at 7 p.m.

LeMieux will talk about his book “Breakfast at Sally’s: One Homeless Man’s Inspirational Journey.” Books will be available for purchase and signing. Friends of the University Place Library sponsor this free event.

In the book, LeMieux describes his odyssey and the quirky, diverse and endearing cast of characters he met among Bremerton’s homeless people. He wrote the book on a secondhand manual typewriter wherever he could, including a picnic table in a public park. His story offers a rare inside look at how one man—beaten down and alone—reconnected, found good people and ultimately, with their help, persevered.
