2013 Clover Park Kiwanis Scholarships and Awards

The 2013 Clover Park Kiwanis Scholarship and Awards’ Luncheon was held Tuesday, June 4, at the Clover Park Technical College Rotunda Meeting Room. Seniors from Clover Park High School and Lakes High School were recognized for excellence in academics, visual and performing arts, and athletics.

Seniors from Clover Park High School were introduced by Brian Rodenbeck, senior counselor. The Visual Arts’ Award was presented to Leanne Keenan. Brendan Stewart was presented the Instrumental Music Award and Brice Irving received the Vocal Music Award. Jason Robinson received the Male Sportsmanship Award. Yadira Lopez was received both the Female Sportsmanship Award and the $1,000 Bart Dalton Scholarship. Chyna Boonlom was awarded the $500 Rose Marie Lewis Scholarship and Wyatt Fisher the $500 John Zimmermann Scholarship.

Karen Mauer-Smith, Lakes High School principal, introduced the Lakes High School seniors being recognized for their achievements while attending Lakes High School. For excellence in art, Renee Taylor received the Visual Arts Award. Sammie Long’s contributions to Lakes athletic teams were recognized with the Male Sportsmanship Award. Savanna Smith was presented the Female Sportsmanship Award and also received the $1,000 Roger Laybourn Scholarship. John Hayes received both the Instrumental Award and the $500 Rose Marie Lewis Scholarship. The third double winner from Lakes High School was Joshua Coleman. Joshua was presented the Vocal Music Award and the $500 Jerry Dunlap Scholarship.

On Thursday afternoon, July 25, Lakewood Ford Presents the John Zimmermann Scholarship 2-Club Golf Tournament will be held at Highland Golf Course. Proceeds will assist in funding the 2014 Kiwanis scholarship program. The event is limited to 9 five person teams participating in a scrambles format. Lakewood residents are welcome and encouraged to put together a team and participate. Prizes will be awarded for low gross, longest drive, shortest drive, and a putting contest. Contact Kiwanis President, Mike Darrah, at 582-1978 for more information.

The Kiwanis Club of Clover Park also provides financial support to: Caring For Kids, the Lakewood Boys and Girls Club, Partners for Parks, Community in Schools, Santa’s Workshop at Joint Base Lewis McChord, and holiday food baskets. Kiwanis meets on Tuesdays at noon art the RAM Restaurant. More information on Kiwanis can be obtained by contacting Past President, Bart Dalton, at 581-3863.
