The Lakewood United group meets at 7 AM every Thursday at Burs Restaurant, which is located at 6151 Steilacoom Boulevard SW in Lakewood. The events for the next four weeks are as follows:
- May 30, 2013 – “Lakewood’s Connections to the American Civil War” – Nick Adams, Local Author/Historian of the American Civil War (Pamela Maddess – MC)
- June 6, 2013 – “What To Do to Make It through a Catastrophe?” – Kristin Tinsley, Pierce County Emergency Management (Robin Rego – MC)
- June 13, 2013 – “Proudly Serving Those Who Served” – Gary Condra, Deputy Director – Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (Jim Beaudoin – MC)
- June 20, 2013 – “Lakewood Farmers’ Market – Watch Us Grow” – Amanda Richardson, Recreation Coordinator (Don Daniels – MC)
The dues for our fiscal year, which starts on July 1, 2013, are $20 per year. This equates to less than 40 cents everyThursday, thanks to our volunteer board. Incidentally, our guest speakers only charge us the cost of a breakfast. You can pay your dues by mail to: Lakewood United, P.O. Box 99785, Lakewood, WA 98496 or directly to our Treasurer, John Huber, if he is present at the weekly Thursday morning events.
Our governing Board consists of eleven directors who serve two year terms. Six of these directors’ terms expire this year onJune 30. If you are interested in running for the Board, please contact Jim Beaudoin or Evelyn Kelly who are on the Recruiting Committee. Please do so by June 6, 2013.
Burs Restaurant does not charge us a room fee. Hence, please ensure that you at least order a beverage if you attend the meeting and remember to leave a gratuity.
