Lakewood First Lions Club elects new officers

May 27, 2013 By Ben Sclair

Eric Warn and DeAnne Bennett were recently elected 2013-14 co-presidents of the Lakewood First Lions Club, one of the oldest service clubs in Lakewood (1954). Their term of office begins July 1.

Bennett, a Lakewood resident since 1969, is a retired state employee who volunteers weekly as a Baby Rocker at Tacoma General Hospital and is active in Lakewood’s Communities in Schools as an elementary school volunteer.

Recent club projects include participating in Caring for Kids activities; making a difference in the sight and hearing of the youth in both Clover Park and Steilacoom school districts by doing basic hearing and vision screening at the request of school nurses; recycling eyeglasses; holding three celebrations a year at Springbrook Park and partnering with the Boys and Girls Club and other community organizations to provide a summer program at the park; and focusing, through Lion Project New Hope NW, on ways to reach veterans and educate them and their spouses about the resources associated with the return from combat deployment.

Lakewood First Lions Club members adhere to two guiding philosophies – serving the community and relishing the fun and camaraderie. “Live like a Lion” is more than a slogan – it’s a calling. For more information go to lakewoodfirstlions.org/ or call 253-222-3742.
