John Simpson candidate for Position 5 on Lakewood City Council

May 27, 2013 By Ben Sclair

I am John Simpson (email, 253-414-4678), and I am a candidate for Position 5 on the Lakewood City Council. As a Pierce College history professor, a former member of Lakewood’s Redevelopment Advisory Board, a former (pro tempore) City Council Member and a retired Air Force officer, I believe I have the experience and knowledge to serve Lakewood’s citizens well.

A well-designed and balanced budget, strong relations with Joint Base Lewis-McChord and Camp Murray, promotion and recognition of educational excellence within the Clover Park School District, well maintained parks and recreation areas, the continued economic development of the Woodbrook/Tillicum areas and the strong promotion of business within Lakewood are priorities for me.

Lakewood is a wonderful city in which to live and work, and I seek your support in furthering this belief.  I ask for your support and vote in August and November.

having read the article on casino taxes vs property taxes, I would like to know your position on this. If you are on the casino side you need not reply! I’ll know who NOT TO VOTE FOR. thank you

      Hello Mr. Ripp,

Thank you for taking the time to ask a question.

My position is to work for the continued economic growth of Lakewood, and I think that can be done without raising taxes on property owners or on casinos. By no means do I think the economic challenges facing the City will be easy to solve, but I do believe the continued growth of businesses in the City is vital to sustaining the services the City provides..

Again, thank you for your time.

      John Simpson
