JBLM Road Construction Project Completed; Perimeter Road to reopen May 15

May 14, 2013 By Ben Sclair

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. – A major road construction project on Perimeter Road, the road which bisects JBLM Lewis-Main and McChord Field, has been completed ahead of schedule and will reopen to commuter and commercial vehicle traffic Wednesday, May 15.

  • The Rainier Gate on JBLM Lewis Main will return to normal hours for inbound/outbound traffic.
  • The Barnes Gate, Commercial Gate and North Gate on JBLM McChord Field will return to normal hours for inbound/outbound traffic. The East Gate on JBLM McChord Field, which has been open during construction, will be closed.

The construction project, which began April 1, was originally scheduled to take eight weeks, involved adding paved shoulders, repairing cracks and potholes, and repaving the road surface.

Contractors were able complete construction early by closing Perimeter Road and not having the contractor working in live traffic, and the week they happened to pave the weather was sunny and warm which made it possible for the entire pavement to be placed without weather-related delays.
