George Rybolt, creator of the renowned Steilacoom birdhouses, was among the plant shoppers on May 11 in downtown Steilacoom. He was spotted busily loading plants into a car trunk on Saturday morning.
Dozens of local gardeners descended Saturday to the Bair Store lot to scoop up as many clippings, cuttings, pots, bouquets, birdhouses and more at the annual Steilacoom Garden Club plant sale.
According to Lenore Rogers, Garden Club member, the group earned $1,388.46 during the day’s event.
Proceeds from the sale pay for the colorful array of hanging baskets that soon will be installed along Lafayette Street.
Garden Club members also maintain several community garden sites around Steilacoom, including the Rainier Street entrance to town, and a small plot adjacent to the Bair Store. They also provide holiday greenery for Steilacoom businesses.
