Lakewood and St. Clare Partner to Builder Healthier Communities

May 12, 2013 By Ben Sclair

By Jeff Brewster, Communications Director

LAKEWOOD – St. Clare Hospital recently announced its decision to partner with the City of Lakewood and serve as a prime sponsor for the 2013 Farmers Market and the 2013 SummerFEST Triathlon, donating $15,000 to support these two summer events.

St. Clare Hospital has been a long supporter of the City and its programs, sponsoring the first ever Jingle Bell Rock 5K in December 2012 and providing staff volunteers for the first SummerFEST Triathlon in July 2012.  St. Clare also offers the support of their food facility, volunteers and more.

“St. Clare Hospital has been wonderful and a huge supporter of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services department,” said director Mary Dodsworth, “we look forward to continuing to work together toward creating healthier communities this summer and in the future.”

This year will mark the second season of the Lakewood Farmers Market, which started last summer as a pilot project to measure the feasibility of a Farmers Market and turned out to be a major success.  The Farmers Market begins on June 4. It runs every Tuesday from 11am – 3pm at Lakewood City Hall through September 17.  Farmers Market staff are predicting an equally successful 2013 season with exciting additions including theme days, entertainment and much more!

Lakewood will present the 2nd Annual SummerFEST Triathlon on July 14, 2013. The race starts at American Lake Parkand ends at Fort Steilacoom Park.
