The McChord Retiree Activities Office is busy planning the 2013 Military Retiree Heritage Dinner, for 22 June at the McChord Co-located Club. This banquet was previously presented as a Military Dining Out, but in recent years became more popular as a Heritage Dinner. For this 35th annual event, the Guest Speaker will be Retired Lt Colonel Edward Saylor, one of only four remaining survivors of the famous Doolittle Raiders. After 28 years of distinguished service in the US Air Force, Lt Colonel Saylor retired in 1967. Among his many decorations are the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Force Commendation Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters), and the Chinese Army, Navy, and Air Corps Medal.
Other special features are also planned, portraying Military traditions and memories. A traditional commemoration of past RAO Volunteers will be presented by long-time Volunteer, D.D. Hoffman (MAJ, USAF Retired). Retirees of ALL branches of the Military, as well as their families and friends, Active Duty and anyone connected to the services are welcome and encouraged to attend. Come and greet old friends and meet new ones, and exchange wonderful memories of past days. Military members are encouraged to wear their uniform if possible. Uniforms of all branches and from World War II on, are seen at these events! Dress is semi -formal or dressy-casual. The evening is full of nostalgia and camaraderie! Come and enjoy! Door prizes are always a fun part of the evening.
Social hour begins at 6:30, with seating for dinner following at 7PM. The banquet features Prime Rib or Baked Salmon.
