Staycation at Oakbrook Pool and Courts on Ruby

May 2, 2013 By Ben Sclair

By Helen McNeely Amsbary

We at Oakbrook Pool on Ruby are looking forward to another swim and tennis season this summer (for less than $7 per day). Beginning in 1967 as part of the private Oakbrook Golf and Country Club, the pool/tennis complex has been a fine facility for its members and friends.  A year and a half ago Ryan Moore Inc. purchased the golf course, leaving the pool and courts to be picked up by another interested group. The Board at Oakbrook Pool is committed to retaining this vital neighborhood treasure and are pleased to offer family and individual memberships to the public.

In  these times of challenges and high gas prices the idea of a “staycation” can be appealing .  The facility is located in a lovely corner of Oakbrook lined with oak and fir with quiet streets and little traffic.  The pool has a large attractive deck with room enough for a snack shack, ping pong and barbecue facilities.  The Oakhouse Restautant, a block away, provides a full menu for take-out orders.  The pool can be entered by the steps which are appreciated by toddlers, those with physical challenges or we who simply want to make a graceful entrance before gliding in for a relaxed swim.  Adult swim each hour guarantees a peaceful fifteen minutes while the kids take a break.  Many of our members enjoy using the pool for parties, socializing and catching up on their reading.  The kids appreciate the staff who excel in providing other activities and entertainment throughout the summer.  In addition to swimming, volleyball on the lawn and tennis are included in the membership.  Three courts are available for lessons, team and games with friends.  The pool and courts are sparkling clean, we’ve got a great staff and fine coaches for swim and tennis this year!  Opening day is noon on May 25th!  The pool will be opening for a free swim to let folks give us a try.
