DuPont: Coed adult softball this summer

May 2, 2013 By Ben Sclair

DUPONT – The City of Dupont Parks and Recreation Department is introducing an adult softball program this summer. The league will be coed and a true “recreation” program. They will play using a modified version of the United States Specialty Sports Associations rules. Teams will be required to have at least 4 women in the lineup each game, there are no home runs allowed and all game will be held on Sundays at Powderworks Park.

“Adults in town have been asking for this for a couple of years,” said program administrator Tom Bradbury. “This is a first for the city, but I think it will be pretty popular.”

According to Tom, the rules were designed to encourage as much local participation as possible.

“We weren’t interested in creating a super competitive league where tournament teams from outside come and bash home runs over the rock wall,” Bradbury added. “We want this to be something where parents can come and play, kids can be entertained at the park and its a nice low key environment.”

Teams can register as a group for $595 or individuals can register for $50 and be placed on a team.
