Bates names Ed Ulman interim general manager of KBTC Public Television

April 24, 2013 By Ben Sclair

By Chelsea Lindquist, Communications Specialist, Bates Technical College

TACOMA – Bates Technical College has appointed Ed Ulman as the Interim Executive Director/General Manager of KBTC Public Television effective Monday, April 22. Ulman replaces David Hinman, who vacated his position in April to become the General Manager of Pierce County TV.

During the past four years as KBTC’s Development Director, Ulman led all fundraising, underwriting, community engagement and grant activities for KBTC Public Television. He also represented KBTC and Bates Technical College through on-air fundraising and community activities. Under Ulman’s leadership, the development team nearly doubled its fundraising.

Before moving to Tacoma, Ulman served as the Education and Outreach Manager for KNME-TV in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

“Ed has the right experience to serve during this transition at our station. We are enthusiastic about his ability to accent the relationship between the television station and the extended college, and he will continue to expand our outreach efforts in the community,” college president Dr. Ron Langrell said. “We are committed to finding a permanent leader who will build on the foundation that we have worked so hard to achieve,” he said.

Ulman will serve in the interim position for three to six months, while Bates conducts a national search for a permanent hire.
