deLeonMariaMaria S. de Leon — Age 88, of Lakewood, WA, passed away April 15, 2013. She was born on August 16, 1924 in Bayambang, Pangasinan, Philippines, one of ten children. She grew up there, where she met, fell in love, and married Ramon P. de Leon. Together, they had 11 children. Seven of her children were born in her home town, and after immigrating to the United States she had four more children.

Her beloved husband passed away in 1989, and since then she became the solid foundation of the family. Her strength in life was her steadfast faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included sewing, dancing, shopping, telling stories, and completing crossword puzzles.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis Cabrini Church Friday, April 19th, 2013 at 11:00 am. Burial immediately following at Mountain View Funeral Home.

“Amazing Grace” Dodge

Grace DodgeFulfilling her lifelong wish of a beloved family by her side, reclining in her favorite chair at home a remarkable 102 year journey came to a sweet ending April 16th, 2013. Grace was born in Cadott Wisconsin, moved to Tacoma in 1921 with parents and sister, Arthur, May and Faye Roberts. A graduate of Lincoln High School where she met and married the great love and partner of her life Dr. Maurice McKay Dodge Jr. They were together for a 69 year adventure. Civic minded yet world travelers, dedicated golfers and desert snow birds. Maurie and Grace were a duo to be reckoned with. Maurie preceded her in death in 1999.

She is survived by her daughter Carol May, (Bob) Pfeiffer of Tacoma and son Dr. Byron (Junice deceased) Dodge of Gig harbor, sister in law Irene (Bob deceased) Dodge, 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren Never want for an opinion, we will miss her sophisticated dry wit and down to earth love and ever expressive gratitude. She enjoyed a beautiful, rich long life filled with determination, love and adventure, that all who knew her were blessed to have shared.

A family graveside ceremony will take place Saturday April 20th, 2013, 10:30 am at Mountain View Memorial Park, Steilacoom. A Memorial service will be held following at 2:00 at St Luke Memorial Episcopal Church, 3615 N. Gove St. Tacoma.

Glenda E. Smith — Age 77, died Monday April 8, 2013. Memorial services to be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 1:00 PM. Oasis Church at Lakewood, 7912 Lakewood Dr W, Lakewood, with Dave Zetterberg officiating. Glenda was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy, her parents, and her siblings. Ruby GibsonRuby Juanita Long Gibson, beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma, was 89 years old when she passed away April 15, 2013.  She was surrounded by many members of her family.  Ruby was born in Richpatch, VA to her father, Ellery Curtis Long, and mother, Maggie Ellen Harold, on February 16, 1924.  She was preceded by her husband William Gibson, who died 39 days prior to her on March 7, 2013.  She was also preceded by her son, Roy James Gibson, who died Aug. 18, 2009.

Ruby is survived by her daughter Naomi E. Manning and family, her son William L. Gibson III and his wife Mary Jo Gibson, and her youngest daughter Caroline M. Gibson and her family; by ten grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins on both sides of the family.  She had one special little girl, Samantha.  Ruby had so many loving friends over the years, and she was special to all of us.

Ruby was one hardworking woman.  She worked a full-time job as a seamstress until she retired.  She could work circles around most people.  She always had an agenda in her head every day.  She loved to garden, knit, and she especially loved having her family around as much as possible.  She was an excellent cook.  She and Dad hit the road as soon as Mom retired.  They traveling all over the U.S., only missing a few states.  They loved travelling together, and spent most of their time in Arizona, Florida, and Virginia.  Mom was also very passionate about her God Jehovah and his son Jesus Christ.  They will be missed by so many, because they were loved by so many.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Yelm Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  Visitation will be from 1:00-9:00 PM on Saturday at Mountain View Funeral Home.
