Walk and Discover Tacoma’s Public Art

April 15, 2013 By Ben Sclair

By Meagan Kula

TACOMA – On Wednesday, April 17, 2013, Downtown On the Go will be holding a free Public Art Walk from 5:15 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. led by Amy McBride, Tacoma Arts Administrator.   The walk, sponsored by Spaceworks Tacoma, will highlight art work along a 1.5 mile walking route in downtown Tacoma starting at the Hotel Murano, 1320 Broadway Tacoma, WA 98402.  It will also include new Spaceworks Coordinator, Heather Joy expounding on Spaceworks Tacoma, which fills vacant commercial spaces with artists and entrepreneurs.  After the walk, participants are invited to attend a social event with food and drink specials at the Gallery located at BITE Restaurant in the Hotel Murano.  There is no need to pre-register for the event, simply join us at the meeting spot.

The Public Art Walk is part of Downtown On the Go’s 2013 Walk Tacoma series sponsored by Franciscan Health System.  It is an eight-event walking series held on the first and third Wednesdays, from April through August.  The fun, themed walks, now in their fourth year, encourage downtown employees and residents to exercise and enjoy the outdoors by discovering the different walking routes and parks in downtown Tacoma. The walks are scheduled at the lunch hour and just after work to encourage downtown employees to walk during their workday, whether it is to and from work, at a lunch break, or to a nearby meeting.

Walking maps of the routes are available at no cost at Downtown On the Go (950 Pacific Ave, Suite 300), at many downtown businesses, or by contacting Meagan Kula, Downtown On the Go Coordinator, at 253-682-1734 or dotg@tacomachamber.org.
