By Lindsay Shigetomi, AmeriCorps Rebuilding Day Coordinator
Rebuilding Together South Sound, the Pierce County ADRC and The Hoarding Project will host a free Introduction to Hoarding seminar on Friday, April 12, 2013. Estimates show that 5% of the population is directly affected by hoarding.
While hoarding is a clear issue, there are few who are trained and able to provide any assistance to those who hoard and their families. In fact, studies show that a collaborative effort between mental health, social service, organizing, law enforcement, and housing specialists is not only a more sustainable method of treatment but a more ethical one as well. Our goal is to bring together individuals with expertise in these varied fields so that we may all work together to help those who hoard.
Please join us if you have ever encountered hoarding in your personal or professional life and are unsure what you can do. No previous experience or training is required. To register for the event visit www.hoarding101.vze.com or email Lindsay (lshigetomi@rebuildingtogetherss.org).
