Story & Photos – Joseph Boyle
My title to this article is somewhat unique. Please allow me to explain myself. Few people know that Starbucks has a produce section. It is an itty-bitty produce section. They only sell bananas.
So, you can buy a banana and just eat it like an ordinary monkey or Starbucks will blend the banana into one of their tasty beverages. You can then drink the banana.
With this solid foundation of banana information, let me transition to my next point, the human mind. The human mind is a wonderful thing, and we should grow to appreciate the mind that we have been given. Sometimes some of us wish we had a better mind, but the one we have is generally as exciting and capable as an iPhone 4S cell phone, so we should appreciate the mind we have.
Any individual mind can think about the same thing in different ways. My three photos are offered to you as photographic evidence of how three Starbucks Baristas in three different Starbucks locations thought about their produce banana display in their own individual way.
Photo 1: There is nothing really remarkable here. We are looking at a bowl of bananas, much like the Dutch post-impressionist painter, Vincent van Gough (b. 1853 d. 1890), would have painted. I have a bowl of bananas like this at home. This is how most of us think about bananas, a bunch of bananas in a bowl.
Photo 2: Now this is a little different. See how the bananas are arranged in a rectangular shaped row like logs in a mill yard?
Photo 3: This photo really documents some creative thinking. I have never pictured bananas in this arrangement. When I first saw the tower of bananas looking like the Leaning Tower of Pisa, not to be confused with The Learning Tower of Pizza, my mind started spinning.
The mind is a wonderful tool. We can look at ordinary things and see them in a different and sometimes a better way. From this mental process flow solutions to problems, inventions and exciting new ideas.
So, peal a banana and think about what I am trying to say. Try looking at everything in life from a number of different perspectives. Enjoy a relaxed free flowing and creative mind.
I try to look at things from as many angles as possible. I have a trailer hitch that has caused me a problem for over 20 years. Just yesterday, I was able to see the trailer hitch problem from a different perspective. This new perspective generated an easy solution.
A banana mind is a good thing to cultivate.
