Story & Photo – Joseph Boyle
I never leave home without at least one camera and sometimes two. My camera packing policy certainly paid off for me when I caught this fabulous shot. Because I continue to enjoy this photograph, my hope is you will also enjoy the image.
When my camera captured this silhouetted deer in the City of Lakewood’s Oakbrook neighborhood, it reminded me how fortunate we West Siders are to be living in such a beautiful area. Since a picture is said to be worth 10,000 words, I will say no more.

This illustrates how we have impacted habitat. It is not natural for a deer to expose itself. The remaining population has no choice and has become habituated to the human element in their environment. A proper Bambi would be hiding or at least running away.

Joe, what a beautiful photo. We had the unexpected pleasure of having a deer in the field behind our house in October. We have lived in our home 42 years and this is first time we have had this delight. I also took some photos. I will share them with you at Starbucks!!! The horse and the deer were very surprised to see one another!! Edra
