Judging from the feedback from the teens, working as a cashier was the favorite of all the sections. Staff took them through the basics on how to operate the cash register. They started the teens on some practice with checking items out. Later on when they became more comfortable they got to check out actual paying customers. This gave the teens some really great experience and in their words, was a lot of fun. Fun was definitely the word to describe this day! Teens gained valuable experience, and as a caring adult, seeing them smile and have fun working was a great feeling.
At the end of the day the staff held mock interviews with all the teens. It was about 5-10 minutes of some of the questions they would normally ask potential employees. It was really cool to hear from the teens that they were really nervous about the interviews and how they kept asking for advice on what to say and how to carry themselves. Again it was an experience and it’s something that the teens really needed. The staff was really impressed with a lot of the teens and how they presented themselves and the club.
It is always great to provide teens with different experiences that they don’t normally get to experience. At the club and especially with the teens we want to continue to provide opportunities to succeed. The feedback from the teens was really positive, they enjoyed themselves and a lot of them wanted to apply for jobs and felt like they really could work at Old Navy. Thanks so much to Old Navy for this wonderful opportunity!!!!!!
