JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. – The 47th Combat Support Hospital (CSH) will case its colors in preparation for an upcoming deployment to Iraq in a ceremony on Thursday, June 30, 10 a.m., at Wilson Gym on JBLM Lewis-North.
The 47th CSH will be responsible for three missions in Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn. The first mission is to provide command and control of echelon-above-brigade medical units. These medical units are dispersed across Iraq providing Army Health System Support for the Advise and Assist Forces in Iraq. The second mission is to operate a hospital in the southern part of Iraq as part of the Army Health System. The third mission for the CSH is to provide personnel to staff Department of State medical treatment facilities in order to provide initial health support capability at those facilities. Approximately 110 personnel will deploy with the 47th Combat Support Hospital to Iraq in the initial deployment, with another 100 personnel deploying in a second element in August.
In total the 47th CSH will deploy almost 220 personnel on its fourth deployment to Iraq in eight years. The unit redeployed from its third deployment to Iraq in January 2010. The 47th CSH is part of the 62nd Medical Brigade at JBLM.
