John Sylvan Hauge, 91, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011 and went to be with his Lord after an extended illness. John was born to Norwegian immigrant parents on a farm they homesteaded in North Dakota. He graduated from Burlington WA High School and attended Washington State University before joining the US Army Air Corps, where he served as a tech sergeant with a bomber group in Burma, China and India during World War II. John worked in the automotive industry both as a small business owner and general manager of a local auto parts distributor. He was an avid fisherman. Nothing made him happier than getting the family out in his boat on Puget Sound. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and deacon. John was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by Arlene, his wife of 64 years, his daughter Betty Leisher, son Ron Hauge, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Rex Vale Holmes, 3/27/17 – 6/16/11. Born in Keswick, Iowa, raised in Ottumwa, Rex was the youngest of Bessie and Lemuel Holmes’ three children. Brother Lem was his best friend. Rex was married 56 years to Neva Wilkinson, the girl of his dreams, who passed away in 1997. He was an Army Air Force Staff Sergeant in China, India and Burma receiving a Bronze Star. Rex resided in Fircrest since 1950 and owned Highland Cleaners. He was a skilled painter, wood carver, master chef, writer, and gardener. Rex is survived by daughter Susan Clough; grandchildren Traci McNeill (Paul), Terri Williams (Arlin Chang), Tina Meade(Rob);eight grandchildren Larenda, Leaember, Marquita, Macey, Lareydo, Teejay, Jaden, Bren; three great great grandchildren Joey, Craven, Brayden; and numerous relatives and friends. Rex requested special mention of Dr. Steven Gist whom he credited for “keeping me going”. The family thanks all the compassionate Tacoma General/Good Samaritan Hospice health care team and Family Resource Home Care. Rex requested no funeral service. Jack W. Jines, 11/7/1929 – 6/14/2011. Jack was born in Dahlgren, IL. Served in the Army for 21 years, and worked at Simpson Tacoma Kraft for 20 years. Joanne “Jo” Schoessler, 1/31/1928 – 5/28/2011. Jo passed away quietly at home with family at her side on May 28, 2011 in Yelm. Jo was born on January 31, 1928 in Tacoma, Wa to Frank and Merna Houghton. She attended Lincoln High School in Tacoma. Jo married Ben, the love of her life, on February 6, 1948. They were able to enjoy 62 years together before Ben passed away last November 2010. They lived in Kent and University Place prior to moving to Yelm in 2005. Jo’s passion was cooking & baking and will always be remembered for making the most beautiful and scrumptious pies. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid Mariner and Seahawk fan. Jo’s family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her daughters Nancy (Pete) Dalton and Debbie (Jim) McBride, 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, June 24 at 1:00 p.m. at the home of her daughter Debbie, 11848 Dan Cook ST SE Yelm, WA.
