Bartley Norman “Bart” Madison. Retired USAF Chief Master Sergeant Bartley “Bart” Norman Madison, age 78, cherished father and grandfather, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011, surrounded by family members at Tacoma General Hospital. He was born June 18, 1932 in Dundalk, Maryland, son of the late Pearl Edith Bartley and Albert David Madison. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Shirley Anna (nee) Frein, his only sibling, Geraldine Mary Raugh and a beloved infant daughter Michelle. Bart retired from a distingushed 38 year military service career. He was a Vietnam Veteran, having served with the Maryland National Guard, the Tactical Air Command, the Military Airlift Command and retiring while serving with the Strategic Air Command. He was an avid fisherman with a lifelong commitment to the protection, conservation and restoration of our state’s watersheds and their ecosystems. He actively participated in Trout Unlimited, the Go Play Outside Alliance of Washington (GoPAW), the Puyallup River Watershed Council and the Tacoma Retired Enlisted Association. He is survived by his daughter Margaret Bliss of Graham, his daughter Juanita Madison of Maple Valley, his son Michael of Richland and his son Edward of Tacoma along with 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
