Pierce County News Release
Has your son or daughter expressed an interest in aviation? Parents and guardians can sign up students ages 8 to 17 for a free flight session at the annual Young Eagles rally on Saturday, June 25 at the Pierce County Airport (Thun Field) near Puyallup.
Volunteer pilots from Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 326 will take students into the skies in hopes of fueling students’ enjoyment of flying.
Space is limited and participants are encouraged to reserve a time slot in advance. To make a reservation, visit www.eaa326.org/ye.htm and click on “Online Scheduling for 2011.” The event is from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Young Eagles will get a short ground school course and safety briefing before they go up for their 15- to 20-minute flight. Each participant should plan on being at Thun Field for about an hour and a half. A parent or guardian must be on the premises during the event. All general aviation planes are FAA-registered and flown by licensed pilots.
“Come out and join us,” said David Fritzsche, Young Eagles coordinator. “You will be sure to see a lot of smiling kids!”
The Young Eagles program was created in 1992 to introduce young people to the world of aviation. EAA volunteer pilots have taken more than 1.6 million participants on free flights since the creation of this worldwide program. More information about the program is available at www.youngeagles.org/.
