Wednesday, June 15 was a perfect market day in Steilacoom.
Misty afternoon rain held off—barely—until about 6:30 p.m., enabling market shoppers to enjoy the first outing of the 2011 Farmers Market season in the Town on the Sound.
Dozens of customers from neighboring communities flocked to the Tennis Court Market site to enjoy the offerings of about 35 vendors, according to Laura Johnson, Market Coordinator for the new season.
Customers perambulated the Market court, stopping at each vendor tent, admiring jewelry, sampling varieties of cheeses, purchasing sweet breads and sandwiches, enjoying music (Spot the Dog), and buying bouquets of fresh flowers.
As a side bar to the Market, about a dozen market-goers took advantage of new mid-week opening hours at the Steilacoom Historical Museum on Rainier Street. Wednesday operation hours are from 2-5 on Market Days.
At 7 p.m. the town bell rang out, signaling the close of the day.
Next week marks the start of the 2011 concert in the park season at Pioneer Orchard Park. Concerts begin at 6:30 p.m.
