On Tuesday, June 21st at 7 pm the Lakewood Historical Society will present a program on the History of the Lakewood Fire Department. It will be held in the Parish Hall at St Mary’s Church at 10630 Gravelly Lake Dr SW next to the Lakewood Library.
The original volunteer Pierce County department was founded in 1940 and celebrated 70 years of service last year. On March 1st, 2011, a new era began with the merger with University Place Fire Department. The new West Pierce Fire and Rescue was immediately put to the test with back to back emergencies.
Greg Hull will be the presenter, a Lakewood resident since 1948 and a 1965 graduate of CPHS, retired in Jan, 2010 with 40 years of service attaining the rank of Assistant Chief of Operations for the Department. He is currently the Fire Chief for the City of DuPont, WA. A detailed handout will be available to all attendees. The Department is currently working on a history book and would appreciate anyone sharing their stories and photos.
The meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
