As I was leading a tour of the Gary and Carol Milgard Family HOPE Center and Lakewood Branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound today, I realized as I spoke, just how important and far stretching our partnerships are. As we walked through our “partner row” as I call it, at the Center, I found myself talking for what must have been a long time about our partnerships. I realized how abundant they are. First, we discussed one of our closest and most integral partnerships, that with the Clover Park School District. We then walked past the offices of Northwest Community Church and the guests were amazed when I discussed how they hold their services on Sunday in the Boys & Girls Club as well as have office space. Additionally, they have begun administering a “Food Bank” every Wednesday outside the facility. Then we passed “Safe Streets”, who has an office, then “A Common Voice”, then the “Lakewood Family Support Center” and “A Healthy Marriage”. Pretty soon I was discussing the ways in which the Lakeview HOPE Academy uses the building for three classes during the school day now.
As we continued walking through the Boys & Girls Club, I mentioned that the City of Lakewood has been doing preschool programs a couple times a week during the mornings in the facility. We discussed our close connection to Sylvan Learning, Kids at Hope, Operation Military Kids, and the Lakewood Community Collaboration. These guests were so impressed with the complete “wrap around” service that we were offering our families that I began to realize that partnerships are the key to serving. When trying to push forward positive change, whether it is in the life of a child, an adult, the entire family, or even community, you must work together to accomplish great things. I am so grateful for all of the wonderful partners that we have here at the Lakewood Branch of the Boys & Girls Club. The Gary and Carol Milgard Family HOPE Center is truly a Home of Opportunities, Possibilities and Empowerment as the acronym HOPE implies. Thank you to the wonderful partners in Lakewood working to make the community better!
