The Lakewood United group meets at 7 AM every Thursday at Burs Restaurant, which is located at 6151 Steilacoom Boulevard SW in Lakewood. The events for the next four weeks are as follows:
June 16, 2011 – “Bike Riding for the Kids” (Mary Bridge Hospital) – Courage Classic – Vital Fitness – Kristi Roy, Lakewood United Board Member
June 23, 2011 – Pierce County Budget Matters – Pat McCarthy, Pierce County Executive (Andrea Litton – MC)
June 30, 2011 – “Washington’s Lottery – Where the Money Goes” – Scott Kinney, Director of Communications (Pamela Maddess – MC)
July 7, 2011 – Rebuilding South Sound Together – Carol Shiflett, AmeriCorps Energy Efficiency Coordinator – Introduction to Rebuilding Together South Sound’s Home Modification, Energy Efficiency and Rebuilding Day Home Repair Programs for Low-Income Homeowners (John Huber – MC)
The dues for our fiscal year, which starts on July 1, 2011, are $20 per year which equates to less than 40 cents every Thursday. This is thanks to our volunteer board. Incidentally, our guest speakers only charge us the cost of a breakfast. You can pay your dues by mail to: Lakewood United, P.O. Box 99785, Lakewood, WA 98496 or directly to our Treasurer, John Huber, if he is present at the weekly Thursday morning events.
At our monthly Board meeting last week, the elections resulted in Kris Kauffman, Pamela Maddess, Kristi Roy, Mike Stevenson and Robin Rego being reelected for another two year term. Mary Ann Miller chose to resign from the Board due to a busy work schedule. We thank her for her many years of service to Lakewood United and particularly for her wealth of fresh ideas for speakers and presentations. Steve Smith was elected as the new Board member in her place. He has an impressive resume and has also readily stepped up to setup and take down the PA System, when Lee Applegate has been unable to be present. We appreciate his readiness to help. The existing slate of officers was reelected – Mike Stevenson (Vice President/Secretary), John Huber (Treasurer) and Robin Rego (President).
There is a minimum charge at Burs Restaurant. Please ensure that you at least order a beverage if you attend the meeting.
If you wish to make suggestions for future topics or speakers, please contact any of our board members, Ernest Heller, John Huber, KC Carlson, Kris Kauffman, Evelyn Kelly, Andrea Litton, Pamela Maddess, Kristi Roy, Steve Smith, Mike Stevenson or Robin Rego.
For those of you who are only receiving this notice as a handout at the weekly meetings and would like to get it by email, please contact me at email@example.com.
