The University Place Senior Center was transformed into a lively dining hall festooned with fresh flowers and cookie baskets atop red-and-white table linens. The center hosted a fundraising double-hitter on a recent, rainy Tuesday afternoon with a Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction raising more than $1,000.
100% of the proceeds from ticket sales to the dinner are designated to support the programs and services of the University Place Senior Center.
The Silent Auction was a benefit for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure, a fundraising walk that will take place later this year to help fund breast cancer research. Gift baskets and baked goods were among the auction items. Plus there were nearly 20 door prize drawings, as well.
The event featured live music by Tom Brooks, Rick Mellenbacher, and Joe Orr.
Bridgeport Place and University Place Care Center (owned and operated by Soundcare, Inc., headquartered in University Place) were the co-sponsors of the event. All of the food was donated, prepared, and served by staff team members from each of the two facilities. The team was outfitted in red-and-white checkered aprons matching the colorful tablecloths.
