Check out those purple pipes! Not the ones on somebody’s restored hot rod, but the cool, purple pipes being installed along Chambers Creek Road. The pipes, explains Larry Ekstrom, Plant Superintendent, are being installed along the recontoured creek-facing side of the facility. Several hundred feet of purple pipes are being installed to eventually transport reclaimed water to irrigate vegetation that will be planted on the slopes in a few weeks.
Top soil was being spread earlier Thursday as the next step in the $305 million plant expansion project, designed to create capacity at the plant. At some point, Eckstrom continued, some of the reclaimed water will be diverted to Chambers Bay golf course to keep the Greens green. If you’ve not yet visited the Central Meadow area below the Golf Course, take time to explore this vast public park area, located on the site of a one-time gravel operation.
