Career and technical education (CTE) students from each of the state’s 49 legislative districts have been recognized as winners of the Washington Award for Vocational Excellence (WAVE).
The award was received by 128 students-with winners coming from high schools and community and technical colleges within each of the state’s legislative districts. The WAVE award recognizes the academic achievements and community contributions of career and technical education students.
The list of winners is now online at: www.wtb.wa.gov/WAVEWebpagenew.asp
Prior to the recession, WAVE winners were awarded scholarships that paid for up to two years of college. This year, winning students will receive a signed certificate from the Governor, along with an award letter.
Even without an accompanying monetary scholarship, WAVE recipients are recognized by colleges, universities and employers as hard working, achievement-oriented leaders who excel both in school and outside the classroom. This award demonstrates they are among the best and brightest.
The state’s Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board manages WAVE as part of the board’s larger mission to ensure Washington residents have the education and training they need to achieve living-wage careers.
