Lakewold’s MayFest Event Features Local Artists and Ikebana Club

May 4, 2011 By Ben Sclair

By Amanda Wood

LAKEWOOD, WA – Spring is here and what better way to celebrate its arrival than at Lakewold Gardens’ annual MayFest event. Now through Mother’s Day our weeklong celebration at the gardens features an Ikebana display, Lakewold Gardens’ historical display, art display by Lakewood Arts Commission and half-price garden memberships.

Our featured events for the week are flower display presented by Ikebana International #147 and an art show hosted by Lakewood Arts Commission.

Through Friday, May 6th visitors can enjoy over 20 flower arrangements created using the various schools of Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging. The displays vary in style, color, and material used and each display is truly a work of art. The display takes place in the lower level of the Wagner House. Also featured is an art show in the upstairs of the Wagner House through Saturday, May 7th. On display are several pieces of art from artists either residing or working in Lakewood. This event is an opportunity to come enjoy the gardens as it begins to bloom and celebrate our local treasures.

Standard admission fees apply. Admission fees for Lakewold Gardens are: $7 for adults, $5 for senior/student/military, and free for children under 12. Sponsorship for MayFest is generously provided by AA Party Rentals, Columbia Bank and Occasions Catering & Special Events.

Lakewold Gardens is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization. Thanks,
