Earlier this month the Lakewood Area Shelter Association announced receipt of $10,000 from the Puyallup Tribe of Indians to purchase a van. We are happy to announce that the Helen Vogt and John Vogt Foundation pledged an additional $5,000 towards the purchase, provided we raise matching funds. We want to thank them both for helping us with our work.
The drive to purchase the van will continue this Spring with an event planned for a Taking Over Carr’s Restaurant. This is planned for Tuesday night June 21 at 4PM. Come in, grab some supper and just by eating at Carr’s you will be supporting LASA.
LASA needs the van to help the families we serve move from homelessness to self sufficiency. LASA provides housing to approximately 75 families at scattered site housing each year. For 21 years LASA has relied on the trucks of staff, husbands and volunteers to move furnishings and household goods. With our growth this is no longer practical. We need a van dedicated to the purpose of helping move 50 to 75 household’s worth of goods each year. Add to that the 150 Easter Baskets, 100 Thanksgiving Dinners, Christmas meals and presents along with Back to School shoes and backpacks and you get the picture that we are always on the move.
