Kim Vanzonneveld, also known as “Mrs. Van,” started her career in Clover Park School District as a long-term substitute teacher in 1985. The following fall, she was hired as a first grade teacher at Tyee Park Elementary. Kim has spent the last 25 years teaching various grade levels, serving as a math facilitator, and currently holds the position of classroom coach. Highly effective in each of these settings, Kim is a master what the corporate world coins as a “soft sell”—she has the skills to diplomatically produce effective results in demanding situations.
As a classroom coach, Kim’s dedication to staff and students is beyond reproach. Professional and confident, Kim has a way of empowering others to not only improve, but to excel in that which they are already successful. Meticulously organized, Kim guides and directs in a manner that is unparalleled. She goes beyond the call of duty and mentors new teachers in a variety of settings. In turn, the staff feels secure, comfortable and wants to produce. Effective leaders “coach” in a manner that naturally draws in confidence and support from others around them. Kim Van is one such leader.
Mrs. Van continually utilizes her energies to promote active parent and community involvement in support of Tyee Park students. She has developed a positive rapport with students and staff, dedicating many hours to meeting the unique needs of those she serves.
On a personal level, Mrs. Van is quick-witted, with tongue-in-cheek humor. She has a knack for making others feel good. If one could collect “Kim Van” ingredients they would include: one cup caring, one cup commitment, one cup loyalty, two parts tenacity and humor, a dash of spice and a sprinkle of sugar with lots of nurturing and love. Stir in plenty of compassion and motivation and pour into any environment, and you have the perfect recipe for one outstanding teacher!
