Tacoma Concert Band presents ‘Fiesta Mexicana’

April 24, 2011 By Ben Sclair

The award-winning Tacoma Concert Band, celebrating thirty years as the Northwest’s premier community band, presents a concert of lively music from both North and South of the Border.  The program will be a salute to the South Sound’s vibrant Mexican-American community.  Included in the program will be several works with a “fiesta” motif, plus excerpts from George Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess” and other delightful music.  Featured soloist will be euphonium virtuoso Jason Gilliam, playing “Harlequin,” a true tour de force for the instrument.

The concert will be held on Saturday evening, May 7th (just two days after Cinco de Mayo!), 7:30 p.m., at Tacoma’s Pantages Theater.  There will be gala fiesta decorations, a piñata for children to break, as well as free refreshments for all during intermission!  Children 16 and under will be admitted FREE with a paid adult.

Ticket prices begin at $15, with substantial discounts for students, seniors, and military personnel.  Contact the Broadway Center box office at 253-591-5894, or 1-800-291-7593.  For more information, visit the TCB at www.tacomaconcertband.org.

This is music the whole family will enjoy!

Ole!

This concert is sponsored in part by the Gottfried and Mary Fuchs Foundation, the City of Tacoma and Washington State Arts Commissions, and the National Endowment for the Arts.  The Tacoma Concert Band is a proud member of Experience253.
